Privacy notice
How I collect, use and look after your personal information when you visit this website or get in touch. Last updated 24 October 2026.
Who I am
Jack Dicks, trading as Jack Dicks Design, is a garden designer based in Bristol and the data controller for the personal information described here. You can contact me about your data at hello@jackdicks.co.uk or on 07840 789413.
What I collect
- Enquiries. When you use the enquiry form, I collect what you give me: your name, email address, phone number, garden location and size, the service you're interested in, your budget range and timing, whether you're renovating, how you heard about me, your message and the page you sent it from.
- Emails and calls. If you contact me directly, I keep the details you send.
- Projects. If we work together, I also hold your address, details and photographs of your garden, and invoices and payment records.
- Website analytics. Only if you choose "Accept analytics": how you use the site, collected by Google Analytics. See the cookie policy.
The form has a hidden spam check and limits how many enquiries can be sent from one connection in an hour. To do this the website briefly uses your IP address; it isn't stored with your enquiry.
How I use it, and why I'm allowed to
- To reply to your enquiry and talk about your garden: taking steps you've asked for before any contract, and my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me.
- To deliver your project if we work together: performing our contract.
- To keep business and tax records: a legal obligation.
- To understand how the website is used: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
I don't sell your data, I don't use it for automated decision-making, and I won't add you to a mailing list without asking.
Who I share it with
- Google (Google Workspace) provides my email, so enquiries and emails are stored in my Google account.
- Hostinger hosts this website. The enquiry form keeps a backup copy of each enquiry on the web server, in a private folder that isn't publicly accessible, so nothing is lost if an email fails.
- Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies.
- Landscapers, contractors and suppliers working on your project, with your knowledge and only what they need.
- My accountant and HMRC, where needed for my accounts and tax.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don't lead to a project are deleted after 12 months, from my email and from the website's backup copy.
- Project and financial records are kept for 6 years after the project ends, to meet accounting and tax rules.
- Analytics data is kept in Google Analytics for 14 months, then deleted automatically.
Keeping it safe
The website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, enquiries are sent over an encrypted connection to my email, and my accounts are protected with two-step verification.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data I hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how I use it, or to receive a copy to take elsewhere. Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time; for analytics, use the . Email hello@jackdicks.co.uk and I'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, please tell me first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
