Garden design in Bath

Gardens that suit the city

I'm a garden designer based just up the road in Bristol, and Bath is where some of my favourite work happens. My planting and stewardship for the Root Bath and Koji Izakaya rooftop sits above Milsom Place, right in the middle of the city.

Bath gardens come with their own puzzles: long, narrow walled gardens behind Georgian terraces, steep level changes, basement lightwells, and the care that comes with a World Heritage city and its conservation areas. I design gardens that respect all of that and still feel contemporary and alive.

Whether it's a courtyard off a Lansdown townhouse or a family garden in one of the villages, I'll design it around how you actually live: somewhere to eat, host, work and unwind, with planting chosen to thrive in your conditions.

FAQs

Bath garden design: questions

Something else on your mind? Ask me directly.

Do you design gardens for listed buildings and conservation areas?

Yes. Material choices and scale matter in Bath, and I design with that in mind. Where planning or listed building consent is needed, I work alongside your architect or planning consultant. My concept for Mould Garden was designed for a Grade II listed Georgian setting.

Do you offer garden maintenance in Bath?

Yes. My garden stewardship service covers Bath and the surrounding villages, including the Root Bath rooftop, which my team and I look after.

Can you just refresh my planting?

Yes. If your garden has good bones, planting design can transform it without a full redesign. Many Bath walled gardens are perfect for it.

Can you design a small courtyard or terrace garden?

Absolutely. Small, shaded and awkward spaces are often where good design makes the biggest difference. Richmond Rd in Bristol is just 5 by 12 metres.

How do I get started?
