Garden design in Wiltshire

Chalk, limestone and big skies

Wiltshire's landscapes are some of the most rewarding to design for. Around Box, Colerne and Corsham you're on the southern edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape, in Bath-stone country with limestone soils. Further east, the chalk downs bring a completely different plant community. The best gardens here feel as though they've always been part of the land.

Hoddinotts, a six-acre concept I created while training at the London College of Garden Design, explores exactly this: a biodiverse chalk land ecosystem balanced with family life, with landforms that create mystery and play, a natural swim pond, an outdoor kitchen, shepherd's huts and an earthworks observatory.

Whether it's a village garden in Bradford-on-Avon or several acres with a barn and a view, I'll design it around the land and around how you want to live and host in it, and the build can be phased if that suits. For country gardens across the border, see garden design in the Cotswolds.

FAQs

Wiltshire garden design: questions

Something else on your mind? Ask me directly.

Do you work in National Landscapes (AONBs) and on sensitive rural sites?

Yes. Sensitive materials and a landscape-led approach help with planning and make the garden feel like it belongs. I work alongside your architect or planning consultant.

Can a large project be phased?

Yes. Bigger landscapes are usually designed as a whole and then built in phases, so you can spread the investment while working to one clear plan.

Who builds it?

I'll work with your trusted landscaper, or manage a tender as part of a full redesign, with specialist contractors for swim ponds and earthworks. You contract with them directly, and I monitor the build. See how bigger projects run.

Can you design swim ponds and natural water?

Yes. Natural water, from wildlife ponds to swim ponds, is one of my favourite things to design, and it's a huge boost for biodiversity.

Do you offer garden maintenance in Wiltshire?

Stewardship covers Bristol, Bath and the surrounding area, which takes in villages just east of Bath. Further out, I'll help you find a suitable gardener. Not sure if you're in range? Just ask.
