Garden design in the Cotswolds

Designed for the landscape around it

Cotswold gardens deserve more than a tidy lawn and a border. Many of the homes I'm drawn to here have big plots, paddocks, barns and views that a garden can frame rather than fight.

Much of the area sits within the Cotswolds National Landscape (formerly AONB), so materials, scale and visual impact matter, both for planning and for how the garden feels. My background in ecology means I design landscapes that belong to their setting: limestone grassland, native hedgerows, water handled naturally, and planting that suits the soil.

My show planting at RHS Badminton, on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, explored restorative places for people and plants. And in Hoddinotts, a six-acre concept I created while training at the London College of Garden Design, I explored landforms, a swim pond and an earthworks observatory that fit an ancient landscape. I bring the same thinking to Cotswold gardens, from a walled kitchen garden to a whole estate.

FAQs

Cotswolds garden design: questions

Something else on your mind? Ask me directly.

Do you work within the Cotswolds National Landscape (AONB)?

Yes. Sensitive materials and a landscape-led approach help with planning and make the garden feel like it belongs. I work alongside your architect or planning consultant.

Can a large project be phased?

Yes. Bigger landscapes are often designed as a whole and then built in phases, so you can spread the investment while working to one clear plan.

Who builds it?

I'll work with your trusted landscaper, or manage a tender as part of a full redesign. You contract with the landscaper directly, and I monitor the build. See how bigger projects run.

Do you look after Cotswold gardens once they're built?

My stewardship service covers Bristol, Bath and the surrounding area. For gardens further out, I'll help you find a suitable gardener who understands how the planting is meant to evolve.

How far do you travel?

I'm based in Bristol and regularly work across the southern Cotswolds and beyond. Get in touch and we'll talk about your site.
