Montpelier Garden

Design visual of the Montpelier Garden in Bristol: an outdoor lounge around a stone fireplace, framed by two standard trees

A client project a few streets from Richmond Rd and Hazel Woodland in Montpelier, Bristol, currently at the concept design stage. The images are design visuals of the proposed garden.

The design

The garden wraps around the house, so rather than one big space it becomes a series of rooms, each with its own mood and its own time of day. Even the long, narrow path in from the street is planted up, so arriving home becomes part of the garden.

On one side, an outdoor lounge gathers around a stone fireplace, framed by a pair of standard trees. Close to the house, a dining table sits on warm gravel among drifts of purple flowers and grasses. Tucked further into the planting, a fire pit with chunky timber benches makes a place for long evenings.

Pale stone paths and steps tie the spaces together, and multi-stem trees and loose, layered planting soften the walls and boundaries, so the garden feels immersive from every angle.

What happens next

Once the concept is agreed, the next stage is the detailed design: the technical drawings, material specifications and planting plans that a landscaper prices and builds from.
